Katherine Monk Wright was turning 90 . . . and her family wanted to share her memories.

The project was FAR simpler than it might have been . . . as we were able to start with an existing family ALBUM. Meaning that someone had already gathered and sequenced the pictures.

Note that the nature of the project was to essentially duplicate the LOOK of the original album, while taking immense advantage of the DIGITAL processes involved.

So in this case, we were able to apply some light retouching, straitening, and even a few revisionist treatments that frankly the original builders of the album (consumed by other tasks) simply didn’t have the time (or digital abilities) to apply.

See the final proceeds in a 4-minute YouTube movie that the grandkids can see 24/7/365.

But there were a few surprises . . .

Katherine always knew that the picture above was of her Grandparents, having just built the house that was a MAJOR undertaking. And very proud of it, too. What Katherine NEVER knew ~ until we did the high resolution scans for digital reproduction . . . was that the picture above ALSO includes a picture of her FATHER. Can you find him? If not, watch the YouTube MOVIE above, or check this same example in the RETOUCHING section of Prep & Funstuff.

This 1934 baseball team was about to feed the (then) Brooklyn Dodgers!

maninmenu.JPG

This is the 25-picture Main Menu of the project . . . which was originally done for manual navigation . . . so the album could be disclosed in order (in the same linear way an ALBUM always works). But it could also access any picture ~ at any time. Note that the Gold “W” in the lower left-hand corner of every picture is a “button” that returns the viewer to the Main Menu above.

Manual navigation is a huge benefit for local access, but the pre-timed YouTube version is more convenient for wider viewing and more universal access. Though standard YouTube controls allow you to find and pause on any image that may need more study or attention to detail.

Note that the Boehm project (shown earlier in this section) uses the same 25-picture format. To see it, Click Here! The main advantage being that by targeting a project in 25-slide sets (whether one set or ten sets) ~ the work involved in gathering, treating, and organizing the content then becomes simply more predictable.
